Idaho Department Of Lands
Land Records System
The Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) Land Records System was developed around 1970. That system consisted of a series of township-based mylar plat maps and data-sheets containing current and historical information that detailed all state activities. Up until 2000, the mylar plats and data-sheets were distributed to end users on microfilm. Distribution was limited and the microfilm process was time consuming and expensive.
Starting in 2000, the mylar plats were scanned and indexed and the data-sheets were input into a database. An application was developed in MapObjects IMS which enabled unlimited access to these records and much more timely updates. In 2006, the mylar plats were digitized and collected into a geographic information system (GIS) database and a new application has been written to serve this information to the public. With this conversion, the old mylar plat system has been completely retired and the land records process is now completely digital.
The land records system is accessible to all government agencies and the public. If there are questions or comments regarding the system, please send an e-mail to Brian Emmen and provide your name and organization if applicable. The land records system contains the following information:
- State endowment ownership
- Surface and subsurface ownership rights
- Land owned by other state agencies. This ownership is not 100% complete for all agencies, but nearly complete for Idaho Fish and Game, Idaho Parks and Recreation, and University of Idaho Regents.
- Easements
- Rights-of-way
- Disclaimers relating to navigable water
- Surface leases (grazing, cropland, etc.)
- Mineral leases
- Deeds
- Temporary permits
- Timber sale boundaries under contract
Instructions on the use of the website are available from the Help tab above the map window.
